States Without Broker License/Authorization Requirements

A license/authorization is not required to broker a life insurance policy owned by a resident of the following states: AL, AZ, CA, DE, DC, HI, ID, IL, MA, MI, MN, MO, NH, NM, NY, OR, RI, SC, SD, VT, WA, WV, WI, and WY.

States With Broker License/Authorization Requirements

A license/authorization is required to broker a life insurance policy owned by a resident of the following states:

AK Life, variable, and settlement license required
AR Life or settlement license required
CO Life license and settlement registration required
CT Life or settlement license required
FL Effective October 1, 2006 Life/Viatical Settlement broker licenses will terminate in Florida. (Agent must have life license and appointment).
GA Life license (1 yr) and settlement registration required
IA Settlement license required; pre-license exam
IN Life license and settlement declaration required
KS Settlement license required
KY Life license and settlement registration required
LA Life or settlement license required
MD Life license and settlement registration required
ME Life license required
MS Settlement license required
MT Life license (1 yr) with notification or settlement license required
NC Settlement license required
ND Life license and settlement license required
NE Settlement license required
NJ Life license and settlement registration required
NV Life or settlement license required
OH Settlement license required
OK Life license (1 yr) with declaration or settlement license required
PA Settlement license required
TN Settlement license required
